8 things you didn't know about me (or maybe you did)
i was tagged by a very cool chicky from my home state of missouri, glenna, over at a fridge full of food... with a meme. so this entry may not be entirely about food. actually it most assuredly won't be all about food but it will be all about me. so here's "8 things you didn't know about me".
1. i killed a man in reno, just to watch him die. okay, that's not really true but i do love old country music (that line is from a johnny cash song, in case you didn't know). my mom has always listened to country music so i grew up on kenny rogers, johnny cash, dolly parton and others. we watched the porter wagner show & hee haw at my grandpa's all the time.
2. i have an incredible long term memory. ask me about kindergarten & i can tell ya. ask me about yesterday or to remember to bring something to your house in like 5 minutes and not so much. my short term memory sucks.
3. my favorite author is ernest hemingway but some of my favorite books are great expectations, a clockwork orange and the great gatsby. i read the great gatsby in grade school and remember being completely confused by it. but when i read it again as an adult, i fell in love with the writing & the story. i could read any of the above 3 books again & again and fall in love a little more each time. i went through a period when i was younger where i read any book i could find with the "occult" sticker on the spine at the library: witches, ghosts, whatever. i even read a book on spontaneous combustion. i was an odd kid (not much has changed).
4. speaking of ghosts, i saw one. i was really little and it was at a farmhouse owned by some family friends. i was playing on the landing of the stairs and looked up to see a man and a dog at the top of the stairs. he was no one i'd seen before & he wasn't exactly solid. i learned later that he had lived in the house, was extremely close to his dog & had been killed by being hit by a streetcar. other people saw him & had bizarre experiences in that house. i never saw another ghost but i love anyone's ghost stories.
5. when i was a kid, i would pretend i was hosting a cooking show any time i made food for myself. i would describe in great detail, out loud, how to make the perfect peanut butter & jelly sandwich or fried balogna. where was the next food network star when i was 10?
6. i love love love trivia games. i have so much useless information in my head, it's not even funny. like the other day when someone said something about the spice girls & challenged anyone to name all 5... i'm not even a fan but i can name all 5, spice & real names. my favorite trivia game is trivial pursuit (i own 4 versions of it). i am the queen of movies quotes & trivia, second only to my brother (although he is not a queen). we have entire conversations in movie quotes, which our mother has given up trying to follow. i even tried out for jeopardy! the test is REALLY hard. 50 questions on 50 different categories read by alex trebek via video. and they won't back up the tape. if you don't know in 5 seconds, you can't go back. so... i failed. but i didn't feel bad because there were people there taking it for the fifth or sixth time. plus, i got a free jeopardy pen.
7. my favorite food is pizza, any kind of pizza. the only thing i've had on it that i haven't liked is pineapple (you know, the "hawaiian pizza"). when i was a kid (sheesh, how many of my stories start like that? see what i mean about the long term memory?) my dad ordered extra anchovies at pantera's pizza. the dude behind the counter said "do you know what those are?" and my dad said "yes, and i want a lot of them". dad let us kids try it figuring we'd hate it & then we'd leave his pizza alone. alas, he was ever so wrong. all 3 of us loved it. but i haven't had an anchovy pizza in years because no one else likes it. my favorite type of pizza is chicago deep dish. the best i've had is giordano's but rosati's is excellent too.
8. i can't whistle or snort like a pig. if i try REALLY hard, i can squeak out a very weak whistle & on rare occasions i will accidentally snort while laughing really hard but that's it. people have tried to teach me but it doesn't take. my dad used to whistle so beautifully, it was like a little opera. i didn't inherit the gift.
so, there's some things you didn't know (or, honestly, may have already known) about me. i'm not good at tagging other people with meme's because i never know how many to tag or who to tag or if anyone will actually do it. but, i'll tag the following few folks & i won't be offended if they don't do it.
so i mixed it up with few food blogs & a few not. i actually feel guilty about tagging people, like i'm imposing. but, then again, i didn't feel imposed upon when i was tagged. i just picked a few people i may not know much about but would like to. ah well, enjoy if you wish.
Hey--I grew up on country music too! My husband is a big fan but I didn't think I was, until we went to Nashville to the Country Music Hall of Fame and I knew everyone in it--represses memories. :-)
Loved the ghost story and totally believe it.
I did smile at the Hemingway reference. The two American authors I can't get into no matter how hard I try are Hemingway and Twain. Yep. I know. un-American. But my favorite American author of all time is Hawthorne. I felt the same way about Scarlet Letter and Rappuccini's Daughter that you did about Gatsby. Love Fitzgerald too.
We have some eerie similarities my friend! I LOVEEEE Trivia of any kind (esp. Trival Pursuit), I am IN LOVE with pizza, as I could eat it every day for the rest of my life (but I hate Hawaiian), I love Lidia Bastianich and other cooking shows, and I also have a great long term memory. Sometimes it scares people. Our similarities are kinda weird! :P
